Vartal-12: Faith Coupled with the Knowledge of God’s Greatness

Gunātitānand Swāmi said, “If one attributes human traits to the actions of manifest form of God and his Sant, one’s spiritual progress vanishes like the new moon. If one attributes divine traits, one progresses spiritually like the waxing moon of the second day of the bright half of the lunar month. What actions do the murtis perform that one could perceive faults in them and regress? Therefore, only the talking and walking form of God (i.e. human form) is called manifest.
“Only the great Sant can instill divinity in the murti. But the three – murtis, scriptures and places of pilgrimage – together do not equal the Sant. Such a great Sant is able to make all three - murtis, scriptures and places of pilgrimage. Therefore, such a Sant in whom God fully resides, is the manifest form of God.”
ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી કહે, “પ્રત્યક્ષ ભગવાન તથા સંતના ચરિત્રમાં મનુષ્યભાવ આવે તો અમાવાસ્યાના ચંદ્રમાની પેઠે ઘટી જાય છે ને દિવ્યભાવ જાણે તો બીજના ચંદ્રમાની પેઠે વધે છે. તેમ મૂર્તિયું શું ચરિત્ર કરે જે તેનો અવગુણ આવે ને ઘટી જાય? માટે બોલતા-ચાલતા જે ભગવાન તે જ પ્રત્યક્ષ કહેવાય ને મોટા સંત હોય તે જ મૂર્તિયુમાં દૈવત મૂકે છે, પણ મૂર્તિયું, શાસ્ત્ર ને તીર્થ ત્રણ મળીને એક સાધુ ન કરે. ને એવા મોટા સંત હોય તો મૂર્તિયું, શાસ્ત્ર ને તીર્થ ત્રણેને કરે. માટે જેમાં ભગવાન સર્વ પ્રકારે રહ્યા હોય એવા જે સંત તે જ પ્રત્યક્ષ ભગવાન છે.”
November 10, 1985. During the celebration of Gunatitanand Swami’s bicentennial, Pramukh Swami Maharaj explained Vachanamrut Vartal 12:
“A mother convinces her kids who their father is. Similarly, one develops conviction in God from the Satpurush. Otherwise, everything becomes confusing. After developing conviction in God, the jiva progresses. Then, strength and enthusiasm increases day by day. The astonishment remains forever. If one develops conviction in the Satpurush one has attained, then he too progresses day by day. Dharma, gnān, vairāgya, and characteristics of a sadhu increase. If one is awakend, one is still blissful. One never becomes depressed. As long as one has doubts or falls to logic, one has not become fearless.
“Even if one has become complete [like the full moon] (possesses all virtues), one should not became careless. No matter how strong (a swimmer) one may be, a whirlpool will drown him. The wind will also blow away (an arrow from hitting the target). Meaning, no matter how focused one may be in meditation, how great he may be in worship, or how much wisdom he may possess, one should not listen to someone who talks negatively. Even if he speaks eloquently, it is poison. If someone else goes to listen to him, one should save him. One should remain very cautious regarding faith in God. We have personal contact with Maharaj, so how can we fall back?”

ગુણાતીત દ્વિશતાબ્દી પ્રસંગે પ્રમુખસ્વામી મહારાજે તા. ૧૦/૧૧/૧૯૮૫ની સવારે વચનામૃત વરતાલ ૧૨ રેલાવી દીધું કે:
“બાપનો નિશ્ચય મા કરાવે છે, એવી જ રીતે ભગવાનના સ્વરૂપનો નિશ્ચય સત્પુરુષ થકી જ થાય છે. એ સિવાય ભેળસેળ થઈ જાય. અને આ નિશ્ચય થયા પછી જીવ વૃદ્ધિને પામે છે. પછી તો દિવસે-દિવસે બળ અને ઉત્સાહ જ રહે. એ છક કાયમ રહ્યા જ કરે. આ સત્પુરુષ મળ્યા છે એનો નિશ્ચય હોય તો પણ દિવસે દિવસે વધતો જાય. ધર્મ, જ્ઞાન, વૈરાગ્ય, સાધુતા વગેરે વૃદ્ધિ પામ્યાં જ કરે. જ્યારે ઉઠાડો ત્યારે આનંદ. ઉદાસીનતા આવે જ નહીં. જ્યાં સુધી કોઈ સંશય કે તર્ક થાય ત્યાં સુધી નિર્ભય થયો નથી.
“પૂર્ણિમા જેવો થયો હોય તોય ગાફલતા રાખવાની જરૂર જ નથી. ગમે એવો બળિયો હોય એને ભમરી બુડાડે જ. વંટોળિયો એને ફગાવે જ, એટલે ગમે તેવા ધ્યાની, ભજની કે જ્ઞાની હોઈએ, તોય જે મોળી વાત કરતો હોય એની પાસે જવું જ નહીં. એની વાત સાંભળવી જ નહીં. વાતની ગમે એટલી છટા હોય તોય ઝેર છે. કોઈ જતા હોય તો એનેય બચાવી લેવા. નિશ્ચયની બાબતમાં તો બહુ સાવધાન રહેવું. આપણને મહારાજનો સાક્ષાત્ જોગ થઈ ગયો છે પછી મોળા કેમ પડાય?”
