Gadhada II-9: Conviction of God; Realizing God to be like Other Avatārs Is Blasphemy

Prasang

Prasang 3

Samvat 1911, Vartāl. A chhāvani (shibir) was arranged in the presence of Gunātitānand Swāmi over a 6-month period. Each morning, after the shangār ārti, Swāmi spoke at his seat. Everyone flocked to listen to him.

During the final days of the chhāvani, Swāmi thought that when he leaves, this custom of morning kathā after shangār ārti will stop. Swāmi wanted this practice to continue after he leaves, so he decided to change his routine. He instead began the custom of going to Acharya Mahārāj’s room after shangār darshan so the kathā continues there. The other sadhus followed Swāmi’s lead. Acharya Mahārāj asked, “Swāmi, shall we go to your seat?”

Gunātitānand Swāmi said, “No. From today we will talk here.” Swāmi then began to explain Vachanāmrut Gadhada II-9: “To believe that Mahārāj is like the other avatārs is committing blasphemy against his form according to this Vachanāmrut. This can be understood only from the great [Sadhu]. We should get rid of everything in our hearts except for Shriji Mahārāj.”

Shukmuni Swāmi said, “Mahārāj said this Vachanāmrut with me in mind, and I alone selected this Vachanāmrut [for printing]. I compiled this Vachanāmrut, I wrote this Vachanāmrut, but only today have I understood it.”

Hearing Shukmuni Swāmi’s words, Acharya Mahārāj said, “Swāmi, despite having witnessed or heard the divine incidents of Mahārāj (of his divinity), why does the jiva hesitate to speak or write about them?”

This was an implicit insinuation that Shukmuni Swāmi hesitated to openly say Mahārāj was supreme.

Gunātitānand Swāmi explained, “A horse broke its leg in a dream and would not put it on the ground. A vet was called. He said, ‘This horse broke its leg in a dream.’ Someone asked, ‘What should be done?’ The vet said, ‘Prepare 200 horses and fire cannons and guns. When it is startled, it will forget its dream.’ Similarly, people have been confused by the words of the scriptures, so when we continuously bombard them with words of Mahārāj’s supremacy like this, their confusion will clear up and they will understand Mahārāj’s supremacy in their heart.” (Swāmini Vāto - 3/19)
