Sarangpur-7: Naimishāranya Kshetra

February 27, 1963, Mumbai. During the night time discourse at Akshar Bhavan, while explaining Vachanāmrut Sārangpur 7, Yogiji Mahārāj said, “A guru may talk big but that will not allow one to progress. If the guru is brahmanishtha (the form of Brahma) and shrotriya (knower of the meaning of the scriptures), then one can progress spiritually. Not like ‘Mele Māvjibhāi’.^† (i.e. One cannot become great on their own.) The guru himself must have served a powerful guru. [Spiritual attainments] have been acquired through the lineage. There are many people within Satsang, but one should surrender their mind where their base instincts are worn away.

“In our Sampraday, there is only one gunātit guru. It is he who shows us the path. [Mahārāj] has shown us the Purush who will help us attain the state of Brahma [become brahmarup].”

^† This story is narrated by Yogiji Mahārāj as follows: In Dhrāgadhrā, there was one goldsmith named Māvjibhāi who had a name similar to the diwān. There was no electricity back then. The goldsmith went to discharge his bowels daily in the early morning darkness, near the compound of guards. The guards ask him who is there. The goldsmith said, ‘Māvjibhāi.’ The guards became alert thinking if it is the diwān he’ll punish us; let’s not ask further.

“This happened for 15 days before the guards started to doubt: why does the diwān come here when his bungalow has bathrooms and toilets?

“The next day, when Māvjibhāi arrived, the guard shouted, ‘Who is there?’ Māvjibhāi said, ‘Māvjibhāi.’ The guard went closer with a lantern and saw the goldsmith instead of the diwān. He immediately cuffed him and asked, ‘Who calls you Māvjibhāi?’ ‘My father, my mother, my wife, all call me Māvjibhāi.’ The guard says, ‘How does the government benefit from that?’ And locked him in a jail.

“One cannot become Māvjibhāi (diwān) on their own if a few people call you Māvjibhāi. If one tried to become a Satpurush on their own, one will go to jail...” (Brahamswarup Yogiji Maharaj - Part 2)

તા. ૨૭/૨/૧૯૬૩, મુંબઈ. અક્ષરભવનમાં રાત્રે કથામાં વચનામૃત સારંગપુર ૭ પર નિરૂપણ કરતાં યોગીજી મહારાજ કહે, “ગુરુ બડી બડી વાતો કરતા હોય તે આગળ ન લઈ જાય. બ્રહ્મનિષ્ઠ અને શ્રોત્રિય ગુરુ મળે તો કામ થાય. ‘મેળે માવજીભાઈ’^† નહીં. ગુરુ થકી ગુરુ સેવેલા જ હોય. વંશપરંપરાથી પામેલા હોય. સત્સંગમાં ઘણા પુરુષો છે, પણ ધારા કુંઠિત થાય ત્યાં મન સોંપવું.

“આપણા સંપ્રદાયમાં તો ગુણાતીત ગુરુ એક જ છે. તે જ સ્થાન બતાવે છે. બ્રહ્મની સ્થિતિ પમાડે તેવા પુરુષ બતાવ્યા.”

^†યોગીજી મહારાજ માવજીભાઈની વ્યાખ્યા આવી રીત કરે છે: “ધ્રાંગધ્રામાં એક સોનીનું નામ માવજીભાઈ, ને ત્યાંના દીવાનનું નામ પણ માવજીભાઈ. તે દી’ વીજળી-દીવાનું સાધન નહિ. માવજીભાઈ સોની વહેલી સવારે અંધારામાં દિશાએ જાય. સિપાઈની કોટ પાસે ખાડા-ખાધરા હોય ત્યાં બેસે, ને સિપાઈ આને જોઈને પૂછે, ‘કોણ?’ તો કહે, ‘માવજીભાઈ.’ સિપાઈ થડકે કે ‘દીવાન હશે તો દંડ કરશે. માટે વધુ પૂછવું નથી.’

“એમ પંદર દી’ પોલ હાલી. પછી સિપાઈને થયું: ‘માવજીભાઈ રોજ અહીં શું કામ ઝાડે ફરવા આવતા હશે? બંગલામાં તો પાયખાનાં-જાજરૂની સગવડ હોય. માટે તપાસ કરું, કોણ છે?’

“પછી બીજે દી’ માવજીભાઈ રોજની જેમ આવ્યા. સિપાઈએ પડકારો કર્યો, ‘કોણ?’ તો છાતી કાઢીને કહે, ‘માવજીભાઈ!’ પછી સિપાઈ ફાનસ લઈને નજીક ગયો તો દીવાનને બદલે સોની મહાજન નીકળ્યા! તે હાથકડી પહેરાવી દીધી ને પૂછ્યું, ‘કોણ તને માવજીભાઈ કહે છે?’ ત્યારે કહે, ‘મારો બાપ, મારી મા, મારાં ઘરવાળાં બધાં કહે છે.’ સિપાઈ કહે, ‘તેમાં સરકારને શું સડકો(ફાયદો)?’ પછી જેલમાં પૂરી દીધા.

“એમ મેળે માવજીભાઈમાં હખ(સુખ) ન આવે. મેળે માવજીભાઈ - સત્પુરુષ થાવા જાય તો જેલ ભેગો થઈ જાય. જેના ઉપર સક્કો વાગ્યો હોય તે જ માવજીભાઈ સાચા. ભગવાનના ગુણાતીત સંત તે જ સાચા સત્પુરુષ છે. માટે ‘હમ ભી ડીચ’ ન થવું. - બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ યોગીજી મહારાજ - ભાગ ૨માં આવી રીતે આ દૃષ્ટાંતનું નિરૂપણ કર્યું છે.
