Gadhada II-15: Keeping Enmity towards One’s Swabhāvs
Summary
- Methods to eradicate one’s swabhāvs:
- Just as one bears an intense aversion toward one’s enemy and would employ whatever means to harm him or would become happy if someone else were to harm him, similarly:
- One should keep enmity toward their swabhāvs, such as lust, anger, etc.
- If a sādhu were to criticise and insult those internal enemies, then one should not develop an aversion towards that sādhu. On the contrary, one should be grateful to the sādhu and feel he is an extremely great benefactor.
- Characteristics of one who would never deflect from dharma, vairāgya, gnān, and bhakti:
- He would not be suppressed by anyone’s personality.
- No one could mock someone or jest in his presence.
- No one could make even a mild sarcasm at him.
- He has a zeal to attain liberation.
