Loya-15: Explaining Ātmadarshan Using the Analogies of a Doll and a Cow

Summary

  1. The jiva pervades the entire body from head to toe, but because of the purity of the indriyas and the antahkaran, its intensity and awareness is felt greater in the indriyas and the antahkaran.
  2. Just as one who sees a part of a cow can be said to have seen the cow, but cannot be said to have seen the whole cow; similarly, as much one has realised the jiva through the indriyas and antahkaran, that is the extent of having realised his ātmā, but he cannot be said to have realised the ātmā completely.
  3. God resides in the jiva with a definite form; but to keep the vrutti of the devotee’s mind confined within God, He cannot be seen.
  4. Philosophy of Sānkhya:
  1. The jiva and ishwar are included in the 24 elements and God is the 25th element.
  2. The jiva attains a thought through endeavours that eventually leads to the realisation of its distinction from the elements. Then, realising oneself to be brahmarup, one engages in the worship of God.
  1. Philosophy of Yoga:
  1. The jiva and ishwar are the 25th element and God is the 26th element.
  2. By fearing the vishays, one should forcibly keep their vrutti on God.
  1. Philosophy of Vedānt (Upanishads): Only Brahma is satya and everything else is false, i.e. one who only sees Brahma perceives nothing else.
