Sarangpur-10: A Physical Perspective versus the Ātmā’s Perspective; Being Beaten by Shoes

Prasang

Prasang 1

Samvat 1953, Junagadh. Shāstriji Mahārāj once asked Bhagatji Mahārāj, “The darshan of a Brahmaswarup Sant is equivalent to the darshan of Bhagwān – such is stated in the Vachanāmrut many times; therefore, why is it necessary to achieve a state of ātmā-realization and experience Bhagwān in one’s heart if one has attained the darshan of a Brahmaswarup Sant?”

Hearing this question, Bhagatji simply gave Shāstriji Mahārāj a compassionate look for a few minutes. He then said, “Sadhurām, the external darshan of the Sant is the fruit of one’s spiritual endeavors from countless births. However, to experience that [external] murti into one’s heart constantly is an elevated state. Shriji Mahārāj has told senior among the sādhu-muktas, ‘When the inclination of the indriyas and antahkaran constantly remains withdrawn in one’s heart, one sees Bhagwān’s murti within the radiant light.’ In this way, when the inclination of the indriyas are retracted and remain focused on Bhagwān’s murti, that should be known as having achieved an elevated state.

“Shriji Mahārāj has explained in this Vachanāmrut [Gadhadā II-13], ‘In fact, you also see this form of Bhagwān, but you do not fully comprehend it.’ So do not think that, since you have seen the [external] form, you have understood it thoroughly. When you see that form completely in your heart, the tendency of the indriyas to remain on external objects will terminate and instead will remain constantly within. That is known as the state of sākshātkār. Muktānand Swāmi wrote: ‘Brahma thai Parabrahmane jue te jāne re’ – One who sees Parabrahma having identified one’s form as Brahma knows Parabrahma.

“In this way, one who sees the [external] manifest form of Bhagwān [internally] within one’s heart knows Bhagwān thoroughly. Therefore, either in this very physical body or after one leaves the physical body, the only option is to achieve this state. Krupānand Swāmi, Swarupānand Swāmi, and Nityānand Swāmi, etc. had achieved that state.”

Then, Bhagatji Mahārāj added, “Among those who debate over scriptures or the pundits who study them, only a few can understand this. Others have no understanding in this matter. Therefore, for us, we should follow the path of the great. Having faith in the words of the Motā-Purush is the greatest means to achieving sākshātkār.” Bhagatji Mahārāj left for his residence after answering Shāstriji Mahārāj’s question.

Prasang 2

Samvat 1982. During the 100th pātotsav of Gopināthji Mahārāj of Gadhpur, Shāstriji Mahārāj and devotees were staying at Lakshmivādi. While Shāstriji Mahārāj was serving the devotees, they were talking among themselves that Mahārāj is still giving darshan in the Gangājaliyo well. Shāstriji Mahārāj overheard and asked, “Did you all have darshan of Mahārāj there?” Rāmchandrabhāi answered, “We have the manifest darshan [in the form of Shāstriji Mahārāj] so why should we go peek in the well?”

Someone else said, “Today, when the kirtan ‘So so varshonā vahānā vahi gayā’ (100 years have passed by) was sung, many shed tears hearing the words.” Swāmishri stopped serving and said, “They all believe Mahārāj has left; but Mahārāj is still present today. They have not recognized the manifest form of Mahārāj, and so they are entangled in their ignorance and crying.” Everyone understood Swāmishri’s intention from his divine words.

Prasang 3

Samvat 1950, Vānsadā. Bhagatji Mahārāj had Sārangpur 10 read and said, “In this way, one should understand their form is the sharir (body) and Bhagwān is the shariri (the one who dwells in the body).” He spoke in this manner and explained the supremacy of Shriji Mahārāj to the Diwānji. He promised the Diwānji that Shriji Mahārāj will take him to dhām at the end of his life. Diwānji asked, “I have never seen Shriji Mahārāj. How will I recognize him?” Laughingly, Bhagatji Mahārāj said, “This old man who is speaking to you will also come with Shriji Mahārāj, so you will be able to recognize him.”

[Brahmaswarup Shri Prāgji Bhakta: 351]

Prasang 4

December 12, 1969, Gondal. In sabhā, Arjunbhāi Chāvadā was speaking on antardrashti (the ātmā’s perspective) and bāhyadrashti (the physical perspective) from Sārangpur 10. His explanation delved deep. After he finished, Yogiji Mahārāj asked Ambālālbhāi of Amdāvād, “Arjun Kaka spoke in Sanskrut. Now you speak in Gujarati.”

Ambālālbhāi understood Yogiji Mahārāj’s intent and explained the essence of the Vachanāmrut in a simple and easy to understand language.

The words: “When one has the darshan of such a Sant, one should realise, ‘I have had the darshan of Bhagwān himself’ were read aloud. Yogiji Mahārāj again asked Ambālālbhāi to explain that in Gujarati.

Ambālālbhāi simply said, “Bapa’s darshan is equivalent of Bhagwān’s darshan.”

Approvingly, Swāmi said, “Wherever the Ekāntik Sant is present, Bhagwān is also present there. There are many sadhus; but the Ekāntik Sant is only in the Swāminārāyan Sampradāy. This point is about that Sant.”

[Brahmaswarup Yogiji Mahārāj: 5/497]

Prasang 5

Question: How long does it take to reach Akshardhām?

Yogiji Mahārāj: For one who possesses the perspective of the ātmā, it is no further than an atom. But for one who has a physical perspective, it is hundreds of thousands of miles away. According to Sārangpur 10, we are sitting in Akshardhām. Therefore, we should remain elated. Na gayi Gangā, Godāvari, Kāshi; gher bethā malyā Aksharvāsi.” (Without having to trek to the pilgrimages, such Gangā, Godāvari, or Kāshi, I have met the one who resides in Akshardhām sitting at home.)

[Yogi-Vāni: 25/7]
