Gadhada I-32: A Nest and a Stake

Nirupan

On the morning of May 23, 1984 in Birmingham, Pramukh Swami Maharaj spoke on Vachanamrut Gadhada I-32:

“Only God and the Sant are worth seeing. It is not worth going after anything else. We spend money in this world, but nothing worthwhile is gained. We came from India to America to ‘graze’ (earn money). But just as a bird return to its nest after gathering food, we should also return to the nest in the form of God , the Sant, and Satsang. The end of the earth is one’s home. Similarly, our end (destination) is God. One should return to the stake of God.”^†

Mahendrabhai commented, “Cattle have to return to the stake; but in our case the stake (God and the Sant) have come to us instead.”

Swamishri replied, “God and the Sant are compassionate; hence, they have come all the way here. If we become his, then they will come find us. We would keep three things in order. (1) First, one should eat according to God’s command. (2) Second, good habits in one’s job. And (3) third, a habit of worshipping God. Besides these three things, everything else is superfluous. Sometimes, one feels turmoil because of one’s desires. But one should not be troubled by desires. Gusts of wind come and go. If one maintains courage, God will come to our aide.”

^†The analogies used here refer to the analogies Maharaj used in Gadhada I-32. Cattle grazes and then returns to their stake. Birds gather food and return to their nest. Similarly, the stake and the nest are God and the Sant.

તા. ૨૩/૫/૧૯૮૪ની સવારે બર્મિંગહામમાં વચનામૃત ગઢડા પ્રથમ ૩૨ની રેલમછેલ કરતાં સ્વામીશ્રીએ કહ્યું:

“જોવા જેવા ભગવાન અને સંત છે. બીજા લાંબા વેંતમાં પડવા જેવું નથી. જગતમાં તો પૈસા જાય ને કચરો ભરીને આવવાનું. આપણે ભારતથી અમેરિકા ચારો કરવા આવ્યા. પરંતુ ચારો કરીને પક્ષીની જેમ ભગવાન, સંત અને સત્સંગરૂપી માળામાં આવી જવું. ‘ધરતીનો છેડો ઘર’ તેમ આપણો છેડો ભગવાન. સાંજ પડ્યે ભગવાનના ખીલે આવી જવું.”

સાંસારિક પ્રવૃત્તિની આ રીત સ્વામીશ્રી દર્શાવી રહેલા ત્યારે સ્થાનિક સત્સંગી શ્રી મહેન્દ્રભાઈ બોલ્યા, “ઢોરને તો ખીલે જવું પડે છે, જ્યારે અહીં તો ખીલો (ભગવાન અને સંત) સામેથી આવે છે.”

તે સાંભળી સ્વામીશ્રીએ જણાવ્યું:

“ભગવાન ને સંત દયાળુ છે એટલે અહીં ઠેઠ આવે છે. આપણે એના થઈએ તો એ આપણને શોધવા આવે. ત્રણ વસ્તુ બરાબર રાખવી. એક, ભગવાનની આજ્ઞા મુજબ ખાવું. બીજું, ધંધો-કામ કરવાનું વ્યસન. ત્રીજું, ભજનનું વ્યસન. આ ત્રણ સિવાય જે કાંઈ બીજું થાય છે તે ફેલ છે. કેટલીક વખત સંકલ્પોને લઈને બધું ડહોળાઈ જાય છે, પણ સંકલ્પોથી મૂંઝાવું નહીં. વંટોળિયા તો આવે ને જાય. હિંમત હશે તો ભગવાન મદદમાં આવશે.”
