Kariyani-6: One Who Possesses Matsar

History

Premchandbhāi was a merchant of the port city Div. He had a daughter named Premābāi whose satsang was from childhood. She was married to a merchant family of Div and was able to practice satsang without any hindrances. In a few years, she became a widow. She accepted a sānkhya-yogi dikshā to live an ascetic life.

Premābāi had affectionately sewed fine clothes and ornaments using golden threads with her own hands. During this time, Mulo Rājgor, a charlatan from Rājulā, came to Div. He assumed the disguise of Bhagwān Swāminārāyan and deceptively took the clothes from Premābāi. When Premābāi learned she had been deceived, she sewed the same clothes with just as much love and faith for Mahārāj and decided to offer the clothes to Bhagwān Swāminārāyan herself.

Premābāi arrived on the Diwali day of Samvat 1877 when Mahārāj was seated in the darbār of Vastā Khāchar. (The description of Mahārāj is given in this Vachanāmrut). Premābāi was sitting with the other women engrossed in the darshan of Mahārāj. Mahārāj Himself walked to Premābāi to accept her clothes and ornaments. Premābāi said, “Mahārāj, you have shown great mercy by walking over here.” Mahārāj took the bundle on His head, then touched it to his chest and started to wear the clothes.

Afterward, He sat on the cot leaving everyone awestruck. Shriji Mahārāj said, “For so many years devotees have been offering clothes and thousands of rupees worth of jewellery to Me, but never have I gone of My own accord to receive them as I just did. Moreover, never have I become as pleased by wearing the clothes and jewellery offered by others as I have just now. I have become extremely pleased upon that devotee today.”

દીવ બંદરના શેઠ પ્રેમચંદભાઈ બખાઈના પુત્રીનું નામ પ્રેમાબાઈ હતું. બાળપણથી જ સત્સંગ. તેમનાં લગ્ન દીવના એક વણિક કુટુંબમાં કરેલાં. ત્યાં સત્સંગની સર્વે અનુકૂળતા હતી. થોડાં વર્ષો પછી વિધવા થયાં. સાંખ્ય યોગની દીક્ષા લઈ તપસ્વી જીવન સ્વીકારેલું. પ્રેમાબાઈએ ભક્તિભાવથી શ્રીહરિ માટે સોનેરી તારના વાઘા જાતે ગૂંથ્યા. રાજુલાનો મૂળો રાજગર દીવ આવ્યો. ઠગ હતો. તે સ્વામિનારાયણનો વેશ લઈ પ્રેમાબાઈને ઘરે આવ્યો અને વસ્ત્રાભૂષણ પડાવી ગયો. પ્રેમાબાઈને ખબર પડી તો ફરી શ્રદ્ધાપૂર્વક વસ્ત્રો તથા આભૂષણો તૈયાર કરાવ્યાં. જાતે શ્રીહરિને અર્પણ કરવા ગયાં. સં. ૧૮૭૭ ને દિવાળીને દિવસે શ્રીહરિ કારિયાણીમાં વસ્તા ખાચરના દરબારમાં બિરાજતા હતા. (વચનામૃત કારિયાણી ૬માં મહારાજની મૂર્તિનું વર્ણન છે.) પ્રેમાબાઈ દૂરથી દર્શન કરી સ્ત્રીઓની સભામાં બેઠાં. પછી શ્રીજીમહારાજ સામેથી વસ્ત્રો-આભૂષણો ગ્રહણ કરવા પધાર્યા. પ્રેમાબાઈએ કહ્યું, “આપા સામે ચાલીને પધાર્યા. ખૂબ કૃપા કરી.” શ્રીહરિએ પોટલું હાથમાંથી લઈને માથે ચડાવ્યું ને છાતીએ અડાડ્યું અને વસ્ત્રાભૂષણ ધારણ કરવા લાગ્યા. શ્રીહરિ પલંગ પર બિરાજ્યા. સૌ સ્તબ્ધ. શ્રીહરિએ કહ્યું, “સાંભળો સંતો-હરિભક્તો, આટલાં વર્ષ થયાં તેમાં અમારે અર્થે કેટલાય હરિભક્તો વસ્ત્ર તથા હજારો રૂપિયાના અલંકાર લાવે છે. અમે આવી રીતે કોઈની સામાં જઈને લેતા નથી. આવી રીતે કોઈનાં વસ્ત્ર-અલંકાર પહેરીને રાજી પણ થયા નથી. આજે તો અમારે એ હરિભક્ત ઉપર અતિશય રાજીપો થયો.”
