Gadhada I-58: The Body, Bad Company and Past Sanskārs; One Becomes like One Perceives the Great

One day, during the morning discourse, Keshavcharandāsji was reading Vachanamrut Gadhada I-58. The following words were read: “... a staunch devotee behaves as a servant of the servants of God...” Keshavcharandās asked, “Swami, who can be called a servant of servants of God?”

Swamishri answered, “One who surrenders to God and does exactly as told.” Swamishri gave an example, “Dadabhai’s Gopaliyo behaves as a servant of Dadabhai. He brings stacks of wood from Girnar, sells the stacks, and buys opium and other stuff from the one kori he profits for Dadabhai’s sake. In a similar fashion, one who behaves as a servant of servants of God and the Sant will not do anything against the wishes of God and the Sant. Even if someone says, ‘Where has Gopaliyo gone? Is he dead or something?’ he does not take it negatively.”

Keshavcharandās said, “Swami, that is true. This type of understanding is difficult.”

Swamishri laughed and said, “Is ultimate liberation easy? This talk is for one who wants ultimate liberation. However, we want to be cured of a disease without medicinal treatment. Will one be cured like that? One has to be willing to do anything and make this their last life. Only one who is brave can accomplish this.”

Keshavcharandās replied, “What you say is true, Swami.” He himself had self-interest in liberation and imbibed Swamishri’s words in his heart.

એક દિવસ સવારની સભામાં કેશવચરણદાસજી ગઢડા પ્રથમ ૫૮મું વચનામૃત વાંચતા હતા. તેમાં આવ્યું કે: “પરમેશ્વરના દાસનો ગુલામ થઈને રહે.” ત્યારે કેશવચરણદાસે પૂછ્યું, “સ્વામી! આ ગુલામ કોને કહેવાય?”

એટલે સ્વામીશ્રીએ કહ્યું, “એ તો વેચાણ થઈને રહે અને જેમ કહે તેમ કરે તે ગુલામ કહેવાય.” પછી તે ઉપર દૃષ્ટાંત આપ્યું, “દાદાભાઈનો ગોપાળિયો છે તે દાદાભાઈનો ગુલામ થઈને રહ્યો છે. ગિરનારમાંથી લાકડાંનો ભારો લાવી, વેચી, તેની જે એક કોરી ઊપજે તેમાંથી અરધી કોરીનું અફીણ લે અને અરધી કોરીની બીજી વસ્તુઓ લે અને દાદાભાઈને ખવરાવે. એમ જે પરમેશ્વર અને મોટા સંતનો ગુલામ થઈને રહે તેનાથી કાંઈ આડું-અવળું થાય જ નહીં. જુઓને, તેને કોઈ બોલાવે કે, ‘ક્યાં મરી ગયો ગોપાળિયો,’ પણ તેથી તેને કાંઈ માઠું નથી લાગતું.”

આ સાંભળી કેશવચરણદાસે કહ્યું, “સ્વામી! ખરી વાત છે. આવી સ્થિતિ થવી તે બહુ કઠણ છે.”

એટલે સ્વામીશ્રીએ હસીને કહ્યું, “આત્યંતિક મોક્ષ થાવો તે પણ ક્યાં સહેલું છે! માટે જેને એ મોક્ષ મેળવવો હોય તેને માટે આ બધી વાતું છે. પણ આપણે તો પેટમાંથી પાણી હલવા દેવું નથી અને રોગ કાઢવો છે, પણ એમ કાંઈ રોગ જાય? એ તો છાતીના ઘા લેવા અને છેલ્લો જન્મ કરી લેવો. શૂરવીર થાવું તો જ બને.”

સ્વામીશ્રીની અતિ શૂરવીરપણાની વાતોથી કેશવચરણદાસે કહ્યું, “સ્વામી! આપ ખરું કહો છો.”

પોતે બહુ જ ખપવાળા હતા, તેથી સ્વામીશ્રીની આ વાણી તેમના અંતરમાં સોંસરી ઊતરી ગઈ!
