Sarangpur-10: A Physical Perspective versus the Ātmā’s Perspective; Being Beaten by Shoes

Nirupan

1973, Rajkot. I was still a yuvak at that time. Some ladies had written some questions for Swamishri and so I took them to him. Swamishri told me to read them out aloud. One question was, “In Sarangpur 10, Shreeji Maharaj says that for one who is constantly looking outwards, Akshardham is very far away. Whereas for one who looks inwards towards his own ātmā, it is right here. He also says that the belief that Akshardham is far away is false, and that the correct belief is that it is right here. Mul Akshar Sadguru Gunatitanand Swami also says in his talks, that if one can realise one’s self to be Akshar, then there is no question of coming and going (to Akshardham). From these statements, one concludes that the Akshardham mentioned by Premanand Swami in his verse ‘Aj mare orade re...’ and also referred to by Nishkulanand Swami in the ‘Chosath Padi’, not forgetting the many references made in the Vachanamritam and the life stories of our gurus, is actually no more than a mere concept, and that it doesn’t actually exist. But rather it is a belief, a concept...”

Before I could even finish reading the question Swamishri said, “Both beliefs are true, there is no false belief. What Maharaj is trying to say is that the embodiment of that abode (Mul Akshar Murti) which is before us and which we can all see would be disregarded as meaningless, and rather than keeping one’s thoughts in him, everyone would try to keep their minds engaged in illusions about the abode above, which in fact, nobody can actually see. Then it would be a case of believing not in what one can see but rather in what one cannot see. Ultimately they are left stranded in-between. To avoid this (and so to direct people’s minds towards the embodiment of Akshar before us) Maharaj has described the other Akshardham as false. But it is not a mirage, which simply exists as a figment of one’s imagination, it really does exist.

“And for one who has purified himself, even though he is still living in the midst of this materialistic world, his comprehension of everything changes and he experiences nothing but the bliss of Akshardham. Then of course, it can only be described as being right here can’t it! Those who have attained brāhma-sthiti experience the bliss of Akshardham here and now. So this belief is also true.”

Simply amazing! Who else could impart such unique insight into the scriptural texts?

[Divine Memories - Part 2]
