Gadhadā III-11

Samvat 1946. Bhādrod. One day, Sadhu Yagnapurushdāsji and Nārāyancharandāsji went to Talgājardā to beg for alms (jholi). Afterwards, they sat at a spot where the Patel of the village arrived. Yagnapurushdāsji spoke to him. The Patel was impressed and said, “Wow! The sadhus who are worthy of being honored on an elephant have to wonder around begging for alms. This is Prāgji’s doing.”

Yagnapurushdāsji replied, “Actually, Bhagatji preached to us extensively and taught us the ways to conform with satsang. We were preaching on the Dharmāmrut and singing verses from the Chosath Padi and other scriptures freely. Others did not like our behaviour. So Bhagatji made us humble. Moreover, the devotees of Gujarat are attached to us but the other sadhus do not approve and cause discord. Therefore, Bhagatji kept us here and preaches to us; otherwise something detrimental would happen to our jiva and the whole satsang would have opposed us. However, only because of Bhagatji’s company, everything is fine.”

Hearing this, the Patel said, “Is that so? I have heard talks against Bhagatji, but now I understand how virtuous he is.” He then gave the sadhus 5 kg of rice in their jholi.

Sadhu Nārāyancharandās told Bhagatji this incident. He was immensely pleased. He said, “Whenever all of you speak to others, do not speak of your own virtues; instead, speak of your own faults and the virtues of the great [Satpurush] and learn the understanding like that of Sitāji.”
