Vachanamrut Help & FAQ

A guide to reading, listening and using the reader’s settings.

Reading and languages

Choose a discourse from the selection menu or browse the Vachanamrut titles. On a narrow screen, use the menu icon to open the selection panel.

Open the settings popup to select Gujarati (ગુ), English (En), Hindi (Hi) or transliteration (Tr). While reading a discourse, the same menu offers language pairs for viewing text side by side.

Select a glossary term or footnote reference to see its explanation. Additional material appears in tabs when it is available for that discourse.

Listening to audio

Open settings and enable Show Shravan Audio to display the reading player. Use its play, pause and seek controls. When a discourse has Nirupan audio, the settings menu also offers Play Nirupan Audio.

If playback does not start, press Play directly, check your device’s volume and internet connection, then reload the page. The reader uses the browser’s built-in audio player.

Saving your place

While reading a discourse, select the bookmark icon in the toolbar to save your place for the current language. Open settings to return to a saved bookmark.

Clear Bookmark removes the saved bookmark for the selected language. Bookmarks belong to the browser where you saved them; they do not automatically transfer to another device or browser. Clearing site data may remove them.

Display settings

Use the light/dark icon to change the theme. The settings popup also has text-size controls and a choice of Reader-friendly or Traditional paragraph styles.

The layout adjusts to the available screen width. If side-by-side text feels cramped, choose one language or rotate your device.

Common questions

Why do Gujarati or Hindi letters appear as boxes?

The reader loads Gujarati and Devanagari web fonts. Check your connection and reload the page so the fonts can finish downloading. Browser extensions or content blockers may prevent fonts from loading.

If the problem continues, check your device’s language and font settings. You can also use the English or transliteration format.

How do I read on a phone or tablet?

Use the same reader page and open the selection panel with the menu icon. Choose your preferred language in settings, and adjust the text size if needed.

What can I do if a page or audio loads slowly?

Check your connection and reload the page. If only audio is slow, pause briefly before trying again. If text is missing or the controls stop responding, try another browser and report the discourse number, language and what happened.

Why does the layout look wrong on my device?

The current layout is responsive. Try resetting browser zoom, reloading the page or rotating your device. You do not need to switch between separate desktop and mobile versions.

Why is my bookmark missing?

Check that you are using the same browser and language as when you saved it. Private browsing, clearing site data or blocking browser storage can prevent settings and bookmarks from being retained.

How do I report a problem?

Use the feedback form. Include the discourse number, language, device/browser and the steps that caused the problem.
