Translation
(1) Anup santne āpu upmā
This pad and the 3 other pads in this chosar are part of Nishkulanand Swami’s Sar-Siddhi and are most well-known. This is pad 10 of 12 pads. In this pad, Swami is saying he is revealing the ‘degree’ or ‘status’ of a Sant who is incomparable - that there is no one equal to him. He cannot find anyone in any of the realms (swarg, mrutyu, pātāl) equal to the Sant. Everyone else he saw were flawed in some way.
Anup santne āpu upmā, evu nathī jo ek;
Joī joī joyu me jīvamā, karī ūnḍo vivek... 1
(1) I will describe to you the degree of a Sant who is incomparable; there is no one like him. I have searched my jiva and deeply contemplated.
Swarg mrutyu pātāḷmā, shodhe nāve santne tol;
Dīṭhā suṇyā te to doshe bharyā, sant ati amaḷ amol... 2
(2) You will not find anyone equal to a Sant in swarg, mrutyu-lok (earth), or pātāl. All others that I saw and heard were all flawed. Only the Sant was extremely pure and invaluable.
Sāte drashṭānte sahu sūchvī, kahe kavijan koy;
Sare sār temā shodhtā, sant sam nahi soy... 3
(3) Poets advise using seven examples† that: no matter what essence these seven may possess, they are not equal to the Sant.
Jevā e sant kahie shiromaṇi, ṭevā Hari sahu shirmoḍ;
Nishkuḷānand nihāḷtā, na jaḍe e benī joḍ... 4
(4) Just as the Sant is the crown jewel, God is also the crown jewel. One cannot find this pair anywhere.
†In this line, Swami says the Sant is analogous to seven examples, although he does not mention them in this kirtan. In the kirtan Sāchā santne upmā shī āpīe re, Swami mentions eight instead of seven as listed here: (1) kāmdhenu (wish-fulfilling cow), (2) kalpa-vruksh (wish-fulfilling tree), (3) arka (sun), (4) indu (moon), (5) amrut (drink that makes one immortal), (6) sindhu (ocean), (7) chintāmani (stone that fulfills one’s wishes), and (8) pārasmani (stone that turns metal into gold).
