Translation
(1) Dhīraj sam nahi dhan re santo
In this series of kirtans from Dhirajākhyān, Nishkulanand Swami is speaking to those who are walking the path of a sadhu. This last verse is about maintaining forbearance (dhiraj) in face of misery, hardships of the mind or body.
Dhīraj sam nahi dhan re, santo dhīraj sam nahi dhan;
There is no wealth equal to dhiraj (forbearance - ability to bear hardships with strength), santo!
Āve arath dohyle dan re, santo dhīraj sam nahi dhan...
This form of wealth (forbearance) will be useful on difficult days, Santo! There is no wealth equal to dhiraj.
Atol dukh paḍe jyāre āvī, te to na sahevāy tan;
When one encounters immeasurable misery that is intolerable by the body...
Temā kāyar thaīne kedī, na vade dīn vachan re... santo 1
One would still not utter any discouraging words like a coward.
Dhīrajvantne āpe atyant, dukh bahu durijan;
Wicked people will give great misery to those who are strong.
Te to sarve sahe sharīre, jāṇī te agna jan re... santo 2
The strong tolerate the misery, believing the wicked are ignorant.
Dhīraj dhārī rahe narnārī, pāme te sukh-sadan;
Men and women who live with strength will attain the ‘house’ of happiness (Akshardham).
Kashṭ kāpvāno e chhe kuhāḍo, vāḍhe vipattinā van re... santo 3
Dhiraj is the ax to cut away ones miseries, one can cut away jungles of misfortunes.
Āge Sītā Kuntā ne Draupadī, dhārī dhīraj ati man;
In the past, Sita, Kunta, and Draupadi all bore great forbearance in their mind.
Nishkuḷānandnā Nāthne karyā, pūraṇ eṇe prasanna re... santo 4
Nishkulanand Swami says they completely pleased God with forbearance.
