દોહા

સુંદર મૂર્તિ શ્રીહરિ, લાવણ્યતાનું ધામ ।

દયા સુધા1 પૂરિત નયન, નટવર છબી ઘનશ્યામ ॥૧॥

શોભા કીરતિ ઊદારતા, અનંત ભુવનની આય2

ઉમંગ ભરિ ઊદે થઈ, નવ નીરદ3 તનમાંય ॥૨॥

નવ રસ નવ મૂર્તિ ધરિ, આણી અનુપમ હેત ।

સજલ જલદ4 શ્યામ તનુ, મન કર્મ કર્યું નિકેત5 ॥૩॥

વસ્યા વાસ જુક્તે કરિ, નવ રસ નવે પ્રકાર ।

ભ્રકુટિ નેત્ર મુખહાસ ગતિ, ઉર તન બાહુ ઊદાર ॥૪॥

ચોપાઈ

નવરસને જાણી નિજ દાસ રે, આપ્યો નિજ તનમાંહી નિવાસ રે ।

રુદ્ર વીર ભયાનક તીન રે, વસે ભ્રકુટિમાંહી પ્રવિન રે ॥૫॥

રસ શૃંગાર વસે તનમાંઈ રે, કરુણા શાંતિ નેણે સુખદાઈ રે ।

રસ હાસ્ય ને અદ્‌ભુત કા’વે રે, હરે ચિત્ત હરિ હેતે બોલાવે રે ॥૬॥

રસ વિષે અસુર રહ્યા મોઈ રે, હરિનાં દિવ્ય ચરિત્રને જોઈ રે ।

એમ રસને અમિત અલંકાર રે, ધર્યા નિજ ઇચ્છાએ અપાર રે ॥૭॥

રસ અલંકાર તે વિનાય રે, હરિનું રમણીય રૂપ સદાય રે ।

દિવ્ય અમાયિક અભિરામ6 રે, હરિનું રૂપ સદા છબીધામ7 રે ॥૮॥

કરે ગ્રણ જ્યારે કિરતાર રે, શોભા પામે રસ ને અલંકાર રે ।

વસ્ત્ર ભૂષણ વાહન જેહ રે, કરે ગ્રહણ શોભે ત્યારે તેહ રે ॥૯॥

સદા પૂરણકામ મોરાર રે, કરે ભક્ત ભાવે અંગીકાર રે ।

ઉપમા અલંકાર દેવાની રીત રે, ભક્તભાવ જણાયે પ્રીત રે ॥૧૦॥

કોટિ કામતણી છબી છાજે રે, હરિનું હસવું જરા જોઈ લાજે રે ।

હરિનાં દિવ્ય વસ્ત્રને જોઈ રે, લાજે તડિત ચામીકર8 દોઈ રે ॥૧૧॥

હરિનાં અમૂલ્ય આભૂષણ જોઈ રે, રહ્યા સુરનર મુનિમન મોઈ રે ।

કરણે કુંડળ મકરાકાર9 રે, મહા તેજ તણો અંબાર રે ॥૧૨॥

નીરખી લાજ પામ્યા વારમવાર રે, વસ્યા રવિ શશી ગગન મોઝાર રે ।

શોભાસાગર શોભાના ધામ રે, ભક્તવત્સલ દીનબંધુ નામ રે ॥૧૩॥

રસરૂપ ગુણાકર10 દેવ રે, મહામુક્ત કરે જેની સેવ રે ।

સર્વ સુખમય મૂર્તિને જાણી રે, મહામુક્ત ધારે ઉર આણી રે ॥૧૪॥

જોઈ રૂપછટા સુખદાઈ રે, રમા રાધા કરે સેવકાઈ રે ।

તજી ચંચળતા રમા પ્યારી રે, સેવે સ્થિર થઈ સુકુમારી રે ॥૧૫॥

શું હું વર્ણવું રસના11 એક રે, અલ્પ બુદ્ધિ વિચાર વિવેક રે ।

સહસ્રવદન12 પાર નહિ પાવે રે, શુક નારદ નિગમ નિત્ય ગાવે રે ॥૧૬॥

એવા કૃષ્ણ કમળદલ13 નેણ રે, મુખ મધુર મનોહર વેણ રે ।

અઘમોચન14 લોચન વિશાળ રે, કૃપાસિંધુ શ્રીકૃષ્ણ કૃપાળ રે ॥૧૭॥

ચાલે સુંદર ગજગતી ચાલ રે, લાજે નિરખીને રાજમરાલ15 રે ।

કર લટકાં જોઈને જન રે, પામે આનંદ સ્થિર થાય મન રે ॥૧૮॥

એવા દિવ્ય વિગ્રહ16 દીનાનાથ રે, ભેટે મુક્ત મુનિને ભરિ બાથ રે ।

સદા પ્રસન્ન પ્રપન્ન17 પ્રતિપાળ રે, કરે ચરિત્ર દીનદયાળ રે ॥૧૯॥

વા’લો અક્ષરધામના ધામી રે, અસંખ્ય મુક્તતણા એક સ્વામી રે ।

સદા સ્વતંત્ર સ્વરાટ વિરાજે રે, સર્વોપરિ શ્રીહરિ છાજે18 રે ॥૨૦॥

Dohā

Sundar murti Shrihari, lāvanyatānu dhām,

Dayāsudhā purita nayana, natavara chhabi Ghanshyāma… 1

Beautiful is the murti of Shri Hari. He is an abode of attractiveness.

His eyes exhibit sweet compassion. Such is the beautiful murti of Shri Ghanshyam ... 1

Shobhā kirti udāratā, anant bhuvanani āya,

Umanga bhari ude thai, nava nirada tanamāya… 2

Such is his beauty, reputation and generosity that he has from infinite places.

He will manifest on this earth with hope, like a newly formed cloud (i.e. in a never before seen attractive body)... 2

Nava rasa nava murti dhari, āni anupama het,

Sajala jalada shyāma tanu, mana karma karyu niketa… 3

Such is the charming form (comprised of the nav ras or nine emotions) he has assumed with incomparable love…

His complexion is dark as rain clouds; he resides in our mind and actions… 3

Vasyā vāsa jukte kari, navarasa nave prakāra.

Bhrakuti netra mukhahāsa gati, ura tana bāhu udāra… 4

The nine emotions reside skillfully in his form.

His eyebrows, eyes, face, chest and upper arms emanate great beauty and radiance... 4

Chopāi

Nava rasane jāni nija dāsa re, āpyo nija tanamāhi nivāsa re.

Rudra vira bhayānaka tina re, vase bhrakutimāhi pravina re...5

Considering the nine emotions to be his servants, he gave the nine emotions a place in his body to reside.

The three emotions - rudra (fury1), vira (bravery2) and bhayānaka (terror3) – reside in his eyebrows... 5

Rasa shrungāra vase tanamāi re, karunā shānti nene sukhadāi re.

Rasa hāsyane adbhuta kāhve re, hare chitta Hari hete bolāve re... 6

The shrungāra (love4) emotions resides in his body, karunā (compassion5) and shanti (tranquility6) reside in his eyes.

The two emotions hāsya (laughter7) and adbhuta (wonder8) capture the minds of his devotees when he calls them lovingly... 6

Rasa vishe asura rahyā moi re, Harinā divya charitrane joi re.

Ema rasane amita alankāra re, dharyā nija ichchhāe apāra re… 7

The asuras become infaturated with observing the diving actions and incidents of Hari.

In this way, he has adorned his body with the nine emotions that cannot be measured... 7

Rasa alankāra te vināya re, harinu ramaniya rupa sadāya re.

Divya amāyika abhirāma re, harinu rupa sadā chhabi-dhāma re… 8

Other than the nine emotions adorning his body, the rest of his form is forever attractive.

His body is divine and transcends māyā and is the source of bliss. His form is the abode of beauty ... 8

Kare grana jyāre kiratāra re, shobhā pāme rasa ne alankāra re.

Vastra bhushana vāhana jeha re, kare grahana shobhe jyāre teha re… 9

Whenever he adorns these different ornaments, he looks extremely beautiful. Whatever he wears, adorns or whichever vehicle he sits on, he looks absolutely stunning... 9

Sadā puranakāma morāra re, kare bhakta bhāve angikāra re.

Upamā alankāra devāni rita re, bhakta-bhāva janāye prita re… 10

Maharaj accepts anything his devotees gives him with love. He accepts anything given to him but takes note of the love with which it was given... 10

Koti kāmatani chhabi chhāje re, harinu hasavu jarā joi lāje re.

Harinā divya vastrane joi re, lāje tadita chāmikara doi re… 11

Millions of Lords of Lust are ashamed compared to Maharaj’s beautiful smile. By seeing divine garments of Lord, both lightning and gold are ashamed... 11

Harinā amulya ābhushana joi re, rahyā suranara muni mana moi re.

Karane kundala makarākāra re, mahā teja tano ambāra re… 12

Deities and munis are attracted to Maharaj seeing his adornments. His ears are adorned with beautiful earrings shaped like a fish and they are extremely radiant... 12

Nirakhi lāja pāmyā vāramavāra re, vasyā ravi shashi gagana mojhāra re.

Shobhā-sāgara shobhānā dhāma re, bhakta-vatsala dinabandhu nāma re… 13

Even the Sun and Moon are ashamed (as their brightness is dull compared to Maharaj) and left to find a place in the sky. He is the ocean of beauty and the abode of beauty. He also goes by the name of Bhakta-vatsal (beloved by his devotees) and Din-bandhu (a true friend of the meek)... 13

Rasarupa gunākara deva re, mahāmukta kare jeni seva re.

Sarva sukhamaya murtine jāni re, mahāmukta dhāre ura āni re... 14

He is a treasure mine of beauty and he is served by the great muktas. Knowing the murti of God to be the source of all bliss, the great muktas behold it in their heart... 14

Joi rupa-chhatā sukhadāi re, Ramā Rādhā kare sevakāi re.

Taji chanchalatā Ramā pyāri re, seve sthira thai sukumāri re… 15

Seeing this beautiful and handsome form, Radha and Lakshmi serve Him. Overcoming her impatience, Laxmiji becomes still and serves Him... 15

Shu hu varnavu rasanā eka re, alpa buddhi vichāra viveka re.

Sahasra-vadana pāra nahi pāve re, Shuka Nārada nigama nitya gāve re… 16

How can I describe the greatness of Shri Hari with one tongue and feeble intellect? Even Sheshji cannot fathom his greatness. Shukji, Naradji, and the scriptures sing his praises constantly... 16

Evā Krishna kamala-dala nena re, mukha madhura manohara vena re.

Agha-mochana lochana vishāla re, krupā-sindhu Shri Krishna krupāla re... 17

Such are his eyes like the lotus flower, and his speech sweet. His eyes destroy sins. He is an ocean of compassion... 17

Chāle sundara gaja-gati chāla re, lāje nirakhine rāja-marāla re.

Kara latakā joine jana re, pāme ānanda sthira thāya mana re… 18

His walk is like that of the majestic elephant. Seeing his walk, the royal swans are ashamed.

By seeing the gestures of his hands, one becomes happy and one’s mind becomes peaceful... 18

Evā divya vigraha dinānātha re, bhete mukta munine bhari bātha re.

Sadā prasanna prapanna pratipāla re, kare charitra dina-dayāla re… 19

Such is his divine body; and he embraces his devotees. He is always happy and pleasant. He performs divine actions for the betterment of His devotees... 19

Vāhlo Aksharadhāmanā dhāmi re, asankhya muktatanā eka swami re.

Sadā svatantra svarāta virāje re, sarvopari Shri Hari chhāje re… 20

He resides in Akshardham and is the master of infinite muktas. He is independent and reigns supreme... 20
