Arjun said
madanugrahāya paramam guhyamadhyātmasanjnitam;
yattvayoktam vachastena moho’yam vigato mama.
You have graced me by revealing the supreme secret identified as adhyātma. It has removed this ignorance of mine.
Shlok 11.2
bhavā’pyayau hi bhūtānām shrutau vistarasho mayā;
tvattah kamalapatrāksha māhātmyamapi chā’vyayam.
O One with lotus-like eyes (Krishna)! From you, I have certainly heard in detail about the creation and dissolution of beings and also of your eternal greatness.
Shlok 11.3
evametadyathā’’ttha tvamātmānam parameshwara;
drashṭumichchhāmi te rūpamaishwaram purushottama.
O Parameshwar (Krishna)! Your form is just as you described it. Purushottam! I wish to see your magnificent form.
Shlok 11.4
manyase yadi tachchhakyam mayā drashṭumiti prabho;
yogeshwara tato me tvam darshayā’’tmānamavyayam.
Prabhu (Krishna)! If you believe that it is possible for me to see that form, then O Sovereign of yoga (Krishna)! Reveal to me your eternal form.
Shlok 11.5
Shrī Bhagwān said
pashya me pārtha rūpāṇi shatasho’tha sahasrashaha;
nānāvidhāni divyāni nānāvarṇākrutīni cha.
O Arjun! Behold my hundreds and thousands of divine forms, each diverse in color and shape.
Shlok 11.6
pashyā’’dityānvasūnrudrānashwinau marutastathā;
bahūnyadrushṭapūrvāṇi pashyā’’shcharyāṇi bhārata.
O Arjun! See the sons of Aditi, the Vasus, the Rudras, the Ashwinikumārs, and the Maruts, and also see the many marvels that have not been seen before.
Shlok 11.7
ihaikastham jagatkrutsnam pashyā’dya sacharācharam;
mama dehe guḍākesha yachchā’nyaddrashṭumichchhasi.
O Arjun! Now behold the entire universe along with its movable and immovable beings residing here in one part of my body, and see whatever else you desire to see.
Shlok 11.8
na tu mām shakyase drashṭumanenaiva swachakshushā;
divyam dadāmi te chakshuh pashya me yogamaishwaram.
You are unable to see me with your own eyes, and so I grant you divine eyes. Behold my magnificent yoga with them.
Shlok 11.9
Sanjay said
Evamuktvā tato rājanmahāyogeshwaro harihi;
darshayāmāsa pārthāya paramam rūpamaishwaram.
O King (Dhrutarāshtra)! Having said this, the captivating and eminent Shrī Krishna—the sovereign of yoga—revealed his supreme, magnificent form to Arjun.
Shlok 11.10-11
anekavaktranayanam anekādbhutadarshanam;
anekadivyābharaṇam divyānekodyatāyudham.
divyamālyāmbaradharam divyagandhānulepanam;
sarvāshcharyamayam devamanantam vishwatomukham.
Bhagwān revealed to Arjun a form that possessed (1) infinite faces and eyes, (2) limitless extraordinary forms, (3) innumerable divine ornaments, and that was (a) wielding countless divine weapons, (b) adorned with divine garlands and clothing, (c) anointed with divine fragrance, (d) filled with all wonder, (e) divinely luminous, (f) endless, and (g) with faces on all sides.
Shlok 11.12
divi sūryasahasrasya bhavedyugapadutthitā;
yadi bhāh sadrushī sā syādbhāsastasya mahātmanaha.
Even if a thousand suns were to rise at once in the sky, their brilliance would not amount to that great ātmā’s splendor.
Shlok 11.13
tatraikastham jagatkrutsnam pravibhaktamanekadhā;
apashyaddevadevasya sharīre pāṇḍavastadā.
There and at that time, Arjun saw the entire world as many separate forms situated in one part of the body of the God of gods.
Shlok 11.14
tatah sa vismayā’’vishṭo hrushṭaromā dhananjayaha;
praṇamya shirasā devam krutānjalirabhāshata.
Thereafter, Arjun, overwhelmed with wonder and restlessness, bowed his head to Bhagwān and spoke with folded hands.
Shlok 11.15
Arjun said
pashyāmi devānstava deva dehe
sarvānstathā bhūtavisheshasanghān;
brahmāṇamīsham kamalāsanastham
rushīnshcha sarvānuragānshcha divyān.
O Dev (Krishna)! In your body I see all the gods, gatherings of different beings, the lord Brahmā seated on a lotus, all the divine rishis, and serpents.
Shlok 11.16
anekabāhūdara – vaktranetram
pashyāmi tvām sarvato’nantarūpam;
nā’ntam na madhyam na punastavā’’dim
pashyāmi vishweshwara vishwarūpa.
O Sovereign of the world! One whose body is the universe (Krishna)! I see you everywhere, possessing many hands, stomachs, faces, eyes, and boundless forms. I do not see your end, middle, or beginning.
Shlok 11.17
kirīṭinam gadinam chakriṇam cha
tejorāshim sarvato dīptimantam;
pashyāmi tvām durnirīkshyam samantād
dīptānalārkadyutim aprameyam.
I see you as wearing a crown, wielding a mace and a chakra,[75] with abundant brilliance, luminous in all directions, radiant like a burning fire and the sun, difficult to entirely perceive, and immeasurable.
Shlok 11.18
tvamaksharam paramam veditavyam
tvamasya vishwasya param nidhānam;
tvamavyayah shāshwatadharmagoptā
sanātanastvam purusho mato me.
You are the superior Akshar,[76] who should be known. You are the great upholder of this world. You are immutable and the protector of the eternal dharma.[77] You are the eternal purush.[78] This is my conviction.
Shlok 11.19
anādimadhyāntamanantavīryam
anantabāhum shashisūryanetram;
pashyāmi tvām dīptahutāshavaktram
swatejasā vishwamidam tapantam.
I see you without a beginning, middle, or an end; with endless prowess and infinite hands; with eyes that are like the moon and sun; with a mouth of burning fire; and as one whose brilliance burns and illuminates this world.
Shlok 11.20
dyāvāpruthivyoridamantaram hi
vyāptam tvayaikena dishashcha sarvāhā;
drushṭvā’dbhutam rūpamugram tavedam
lokatrayam pravyathitam mahātman.
Only you pervade this realm between the earth and the upper regions and all the directions. O Great ātmā (Krishna)! The three worlds tremble upon seeing this magnificent and fearful form of yours.
Shlok 11.21
amī hi tvā surasanghā vishanti
kechidbhītāh prānjalayo gruṇanti;
swastītyuktvā maharshisiddhasanghāh
stuvanti tvām stutibhih pushkalābhihi.
These groups of deities are approaching you. Some who are fearful are singing your praise with folded hands. Gatherings of great rishis and the wise recite, “swasti”[79] and eulogize you with many excellent verses.
Shlok 11.22
rudrādityā vasavo ye cha sādhyā
vishwe’shwinau marutashchoshmapāshcha;
gandharvayakshāsurasiddhasanghā
vīkshante tvām vismitāshchaiva sarve.
The Rudras, Ādityas, Vasus, Sādhyas, Vishwadevs, Ashwinikumārs, Maruts, ancestors, and gatherings of Gandharvas, Yakshas,[80] demons, and Siddhas—all are mesmerized and only perceive you.
Shlok 11.23
rūpam mahatte bahuvaktranetram
mahābāho bahubāhūrupādam;
bahūdaram bahudanshṭrākarālam
drushṭvā lokāh pravyathitāstathā’ham.
O Krishna! People are terrified upon seeing your immense form, which has many faces, eyes, hands, thighs, feet, and stomachs and is fearful because of its many teeth. I am terrified as well.
Shlok 11.24
nabhahsprusham dīptamanekavarṇam
vyāttānanam dīptavishālanetram;
drushṭvā hi tvām pravyathitā’ntarātmā
dhrutim na vindāmi shamam cha vishṇo.
O Vishnu (Krishna)! Having seen you, who soars up into the sky, are brilliant, with many colors, and possesses a gaping mouth and large fiery eyes, I am truly terrified from within and find neither courage nor peace.
Shlok 11.25
danshṭrākarālāni cha te mukhāni
drushṭvaiva kālānalasannibhāni;
disho na jāne na labhe cha sharma
prasīda devesha jagannivāsa.
O Ruler of the gods (Krishna)! Having only seen your faces, which are fearful because of their sharp teeth and are like the fires of dissolution, I have lost my sense of direction and do not find happiness. Upholder of the world (Krishna)! Become pleased.
Shlok 11.26-27
amīcha tvām dhrutarāshṭrasya putrāh
sarve sahaivā’vanipālasanghaihi;

sahā’smadīyairapi yodhamukhyaihi.
vaktrāṇi te tvaramāṇā vishanti
danshṭrākarālāni bhayānakāni;
kechidvilagnā dashanāntareshu
sandrushyante chūrṇitairuttamāngaihi.
All these sons of Dhrutarāshtra along with hordes of kings, Bhīshma, Drona, this Karna, and also our foremost warriors hurriedly run towards you and enter your mouths, which are fearful because of their sharp teeth. Some are seen mangled between your teeth with their magnificent body parts crushed.
Shlok 11.28
yathā nadīnām bahavo’mbuvegāh
samudramevā’bhimukhā dravanti;
tathā tavā’mī naralokavīrā
vishanti vaktrāṇyabhivijvalanti.
Just as the many currents of the rivers flow only toward the ocean, these brave men of the world enter your flaming mouths.
Shlok 11.29
yathā pradīptam jvalanam patangā
vishanti nāshāya samruddhavegāhā;
tathaiva nāshāya vishanti lokās-
tavā’pi vaktrāṇi samruddhavegāhā.
Just as moths hastily enter a burning fire and perish, people also hastily enter your mouths and are destroyed.
Shlok 11.30
lelihyase grasamānah samantāl-
lokānsamagrānvadanairjvaladbhihi;
tejobhirāpūrya jagatsamagram
bhāsastavogrāh pratapanti vishṇo.
O Krishna! You are devouring the entire world from all sides with your inflamed mouths and lapping them up. Your intense radiance permeates the entire world with heat and scorches it.
Shlok 11.31
ākhyāhi me ko bhavānugrarūpo
namo’stu te devavara prasīda;
vijnātumichchhāmi bhavantamādyam
na hi prajānāmi tava pravruttim.
Who are you, who possesses such a fierce form? Tell me. O Lord of the deities! (Krishna)! Salutations to you. Become pleased. I desire to know you, the original purush, better, since I do not understand your actions.
Shlok 11.32
Shrī Bhagwān said
kālo’smi lokakshayakrutpravruddho
lokānsamāhartumiha pravruttaha;
rute’pi tvā na bhavishyanti sarve
ye’vasthitāh pratyanīkeshu yodhāhā.
I am the destroyer of worlds and the fully expansive, fierce time. I am here to eradicate people. Even in your absence, the warriors standing in the opposing army will not survive.
Shlok 11.33
tasmāttvamuttishṭha yasho labhaswa
jitvā shatrūnbhunkshwa rājyam samruddham;
mayaivaite nihatāh pūrvameva
nimittamātram bhava savyasāchin.
Therefore, arise and obtain glory. Having defeated your enemies, enjoy a prosperous kingdom. They have already been killed by me. Therefore, O Ambidextrous one (Arjun)! Become merely an instrument.
Shlok 11.34
droṇam cha bhīshmam cha jayadratham cha
karṇam tathā’nyānapi yodhavīrān;
mayā hatānstvam jahi māvyathishṭhā
yudhyaswa jetā’si raṇe sapatnān.
Destroy Drona, Bhīshma, Jayadrath, Karna, and other warriors, who have already been killed by me. Do not be fearful. Fight. You will defeat your enemies in war.
Shlok 11.35
Sanjay said

etachchhrutvā vachanam keshavasya
krutānjalirvepamānah kirīṭī;
namaskrutvā bhūya evā’’ha krushṇam
sagadgadam bhītabhītah praṇamya.
Upon hearing these words of Keshav, the crown-wearing Arjun, while trembling with fear, bowed with folded hands and once again addressed Shrī Krishna with a quivering voice.
Shlok 11.36
Arjun said

sthāne hrushīkesha tava prakīrtyā
jagatprahrushyatyanurajyate cha;
rakshānsi bhītāni disho dravanti
sarve namasyanti cha siddhasanghāhā.
Krishna! It is only appropriate that the world rejoices and is affectionately immersed in your praise. Demons terrified by you run in all directions, and all the assembled Siddhas[81] bow before you.
Shlok 11.37

kasmāchcha te na nameranmahātman
garīyase brahmaṇo’pyādikartre;
ananta devesha jagannivāsa
tvamaksharam sadasattatparam yat.
O Krishna! You are even greater than Brahman (Aksharbrahma) and the first cause, so why wouldn’t they bow before you? O Endless one! Devesh! Jagannivās (Krishna)! You are the sentient, the insentient, and Akshar, who is superior to both.
Shlok 11.38

tvamādidevah purushah purāṇas
tvamasya vishwasya param nidhānam;
vettā’si vedyam cha param cha dhāma
tvayā tatam vishwamanantarūpa.
You are the deities’ first cause and the eternal purush. You are the great sustainer of this world, the knower, the one to be known, and the great abode. O One with innumerable forms (Krishna)! The world is pervaded by you.
Shlok 11.39

vāyuryamo’gnirvaruṇah shashānkah
prajāpatistvam prapitāmahashcha;
namo namaste’stu sahasrakrutvah
punashcha bhūyo’pi namo namaste.
You are Vāyu, Yam, Agni, Varun, Chandra, Brahmā, and Virātpurush—the father of Brahmā. A thousand prostrations to you. I repeatedly bow to you. I bow to you once again.
Shlok 11.40

O Ātmā of all (Krishna)! Salutations to you from the front and from behind. Salutations to you from all sides. You possess infinite strength and prowess. You pervade all things; therefore, you are all things.
Shlok 11.41-42

yachchā’vahāsārthamasatkruto’si
vihārashayyā - sanabhojaneshu;
eko’thavā’pyachyuta tatsamaksham
tatkshāmaye tvāmahamaprameyam.
Without knowing your greatness as such and seeing you as my friend, I have addressed you as Krishna, Yādav, or friend out of love or carelessness. If, for the sake of amusement, I have insulted you while at play, resting, sitting, during meals, when alone with you, or in front of others, O Krishna! I implore you, the immeasurable, to forgive me for those offenses.
Shlok 11.43

pitā’si lokasya charācharasya

lokatraye - ’pyapratimaprabhāva.
You are the father of this moving and unmoving world, the venerable guru, and the supreme. O One with unparalleled splendor (Krishna)! There is no one like you even in the three worlds; how then could there ever be someone superior?
Shlok 11.44

tasmātpraṇamya praṇidhāya kāyam
prasādaye tvāmahamīshamīḍyam;
piteva putrasya sakheva sakhyuh
priyah priyāyā’rhasi deva soḍhum.
Therefore, having prostrated my body at your feet and having bowed to you, I please you, the sovereign and praiseworthy. O Krishna! Just as a father tolerates the offense of a son and a friend tolerates the offense of a friend, those who are dear tolerate the offenses of their beloved. I am your beloved, and so please forgive my offenses.
Shlok 11.45

I am delighted to have seen your immense (virāt) form, which was never perceived before. However, fear has caused my mind to become distressed. O Krishna! Show me only that pleasant form of yours. Devesh! Jagannivās (Krishna)! Be appeased.
Shlok 11.46

sahasrabāho bhava vishwamūrte.
I desire to see you only as you were before: bearing a crown, mace, and a chakra. O One with a thousand arms! Vishwamūrti (Krishna)![82] Bear that form with four arms.
Shlok 11.47
Shrī Bhagwān said

mayā prasannena tavā’rjunedam

yanme tvadanyena na drushṭapūrvam.
O Arjun! By being pleased with you, I have shown you this—my supreme form—with my powers. Besides you, no one in the past has seen my fully brilliant, limitless, and causal form.
Shlok 11.48

na vedayajnādhyayanairna dānair

drashṭum tvadanyena kurupravīra.
O Greatest hero of the Kurus (Arjun)! In this mortal world, neither by the study of the Vedas or the yagna rites, by performing charities, rituals, nor severe austerities can I be seen in this form by anyone besides you.
Shlok 11.49

Do not become distressed or bemused by seeing this, my fearful form. Become fearless and delightful, and behold this, my former form, once again.

Having said this to Arjun, Vāsudev[83] (Krishna) once again showed his own form as it was before. Krishna again bore a pleasant form and consoled the frightened Arjun.

This form of mine that you have seen is extremely rare to witness. Even the deities always desire to see this form.

Neither by the Vedas, austerity, charity, nor yagnas can I be seen as you have seen me.

One who performs actions for me, becomes engrossed in me, is my devotee, becomes free from attachment, and bears no enmity toward any being, O Arjun, they attain me.
